Manchester’s Lord Mayor Presence at Manchester Badminton’s Match Against Bristol Bullets
What a phenomenal day for Manchester Badminton! We are thrilled to share the success of our National Badminton League home match against Bristol Bullets on February 22nd at the Platt Lane Sport Complex. We truly made our home advantage count, securing a decisive 166-114 victory in a thrilling display of skill and determination!
Beyond the court, this event was a testament to the growing strength of badminton in our region and our commitment to community engagement. We were honoured to host distinguished guests from Badminton England:
George Wood, Sport Director
Abbey Barry, North Regional Manager
It was also a fantastic surprise to spot Jayne Ellis , Performance Director of Badminton England, among our enthusiastic spectators! Their presence highlights the significant interest and support for our league and its development.
A special moment of the day was the inspiring speech from the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Cllr Carmine Grimshaw, prior to the game. His words significantly boosted the team's confidence, and his expressed support for increasing badminton's popularity through initiatives like MCR active is incredibly promising for the sport's future in our city. Furthermore, the Lord Mayor's sharing of event highlights on social media will undoubtedly enhance our visibility and reach!
As the first team in Manchester to dedicate a portion of our income from kit and ticket sales to the We Love MCR Charity, we were proud to once again embody our slogan: "Support your Team, Support your City." Every cheer, every ticket, and every piece of merchandise purchased directly contributes to vital local projects.
A huge thank you to our incredible sponsors – Berry's Jewellers, Kabinet Furniture, PNJ Construction, Smash Racket Pro, Uplift Physio, and Badminton England's sponsor, Franklyn – for their unwavering support. And of course, to our amazing fans who brought the energy and passion!
We're already looking forward to our next challenge. Let's continue to build on this momentum!
